Little By Little

So, Ian and I have lived together for over a year now and the first year of living together has been wonderful, so much fun and I've never been happier. However, I have gained so much weight from it, eating the same as my 6' tall boyfriend who lives off pizza and beer and not working out will do that to you, who knew? Of course one of my New Year's resolutions was to get back in shape, eat cleaner and workout like a maniac but I didn't want to share that with you guys until January and the resolution hype was over and I had made some progress. Well, I've lost 6 pounds this month and I'm officially in crazy fitness girl mode (well, my version of that). Don't worry, I'm not going to bore you with daily workout and smoothie posts but from time to time I will brag and let you know when I've made progress.

Are you on a journey to be healthier? I will always welcome fitness and diet tips!

  1. that's awesome! good job girly :) my husband and i are vegetarian but trying to make more vegan meals. all of your foods look delicious! We won't ever fully become vegan but it's nice to cut out cheese and dairy, which is what i'm hoping will help me lose a couple pounds. this post is inspiring and i love hearing about your results :) any special work out routines? xo

    1. That's cool! I'm vegetarian as well and was vegan for almost 3 years as a teenager I think about going back on a vegan diet from time to time.
As for work outs, I've been doing Insanity (loving it so far) lots of yoga and a little bit of strength training (mostly from pinterest haha). Gym membership costs are ridiculous in San Francisco so I wanted to make a progress at home before I sign up for an expensive membership just to use the elliptical.
Are you blogging about your meals, I would love to know more! xo

    2. that's so cool! good to know another vegetarian/vegan blogger :)i really need to get into yoga. i hear many good things about it. yes, gym memberships are too expensive! i usually just run at the park and lift weights at home for my work outs. i tried p90x for a while but I honestly could not keep up! and i felt so sore that i didn't continue lol but running seems to work pretty well for me. I am slowly beginning to post more now that i'm learning a few new blogger tricks and I plan to post recipes soon! :) xx

    3. I have p90x too but I think I'm going to start that after I finish Insanity because it looks super hard, Insanity is difficult enough for now!

    1. Oh those love pounds! Yeah, men are so different. Ian will randomly drop 10 pounds out of nowhere without trying. We were calculating how many calories we can have to lose weight, he can eat 2100 calories and LOSE weight and I can have like 1200, so unfair!

  3. Such a lovely, motivating post! I just love those photographs, everything looks delicious. I love fruits and vegetables. :) I'm not really on 'a diet' nor changing my lifestyle. I used to be close to obsessive about my weight/eating for years and years: I've been 10 lbs heavier and I've been 20 lbs lighter. My boyfriend really couldn't care less, as long as I ate normal (not everything super healthy or super unhealthy, the right balance). I don't know why but suddenly I had seen the light. I didn't HAVE to be the skinniest or the most healthy girl around. I just had to be me. That was the clearest eye-opener I ever had! It even wasn't that long ago, I believe half a year ago. I take care of my body but I don't mind eating unhealthy once in a while. I think that's one of my greatest achievements in life: realizing it's okay to not be your perfect vision of yourself. Does that make sense? I'm terribly sorry for my long answer! Do you have some tips for making smoothies? Somehow they always taste funny when I make them.
+ Congrats on losing the 6 lbs, that's impressive! Good luck xoxo

    1. I have always had a big appetite for fruits and veggies (I actually love to eat raw broccoli by itself) so I'm kind of a weirdo. But kale chips are a really yummy low cal, healthy snack. I love to either put almond milk in my smoothies or raw almonds for texture, also try to slip a little bit of greens in there (kale or spinach).

  5. I am definitely on a fitness kick too. After moving to New York during the holidays and spending January being an unhealthy slob, I decided to buckle down and get my butt in gear so I've been running every day and have stopped eating so much unhealthy food and stick with whole foods. Good job on your progress! I really enjoyed this post :)

  6. good for you! i'm doing the same thing. i think i need to smack my abs back into shape so they start holding my gut in again. i've been running and drinking smoothies and trying really hard not to buy any foods that aren't FOOD (so nothing processed, or canned, or pre-made). Instead I get fruits, vegetables, beans and breads (the breads are for my family, not me).

I have no idea if this is working or not, but I feel better! I guess I have stubborn abs...

    Good luck!

  7. WOOHOO!!! Go you!!! I am around 190lbs with a goal weight of 125lbs, however I'll stop before 125lbs if I feel happiest and healthiest with another weight. I am also so very eager to eat better, live healthier, exercise more and do more zen type exercising. Meditation, yoga, etc. I think the hardest part is truly getting started... I am a creature of ritual, so if I can just get into the groove, I think I will be golden.

E-mail me if you ever wanna chat, as a friend but also as a fitness buddy. ^_^

  9. This is so weird! My boyfriend is 6ft 2, and I have put on so much weight by eating the same meals as him since we moved in together!! Its just clicked in my head that I should probably eat half of what he eats, but we've lived together almost 3 years now so there is a lot of weight to move.

i'm starting to exercise every day and eat less.

    Good luck!!

    1. It seriously should be half, it's not even an exaggeration, the calorie difference between what a tall guy needs and a short girl is ENORMOUS, I was shocked. Good for you for making the change though, keep me updated!

    2. Its so obviouse that I should eat less than him, yet it took me an AGE to realise. Duuuh. Thank you!!!

  10. I'm having the exact same problem! I'm 4'11" and my boyfriend is 5'11". He's a vegetarian who eats pretty decently, but we do kind of fuel each other's "I WANT PIZZA!" moods. You know how when you're alone and want pizza, you generally don't reach for the phone? It turns out if there's two of you, that shit is going down.

My resolution was also to lose some weight, and I'm so happy yours is going well too! I found a new favorite topping for toast: goat cheese and avocado. Goes really well with my 2 egg, 1 cup veggies scramble. Keep up the good work!

    1. Oh my god, I have to break up with pizza, it's my biggest weakness. Goat cheese and avocado have to be one of my favorite foods ever! Sounds so yummy.

  11. Good for you! I'd love to see a post about the workouts you've been doing...I really struggle with staying active to balance out all the food I eat, so that might be encouraging! By the way I stand in solidarity with you and some of the other commenters...what are these dudes doing to us? My boyfriend's a chef sooo that's a thing. We're all lucky because being too loved up and comfort food-y is a great problem to have, but still.

    1. Maybe when I've gotten a little more confidant in my program I'll share. But I've been doing the Insanity videos, yoga and some strength training as well as trying new little things every now and then to see what I like! Yeah, my boyfriend loves to cook and is going to school for hospitality and takes cooking classes but his dishes are always so heavy and caloric! I'm trying to get him to get a little healthier as well and that's a huge challenge!

  12. I need serious help! I will feel super motivated to go to the gym for two days and then five days will pass and I am just so exhausted after working all day! I'm thinking about giving the vegan train a little try.... Cheese is the god damn devil. However, I have been running my butt off on the damn treadmill! That thing used to terrify me, but I've learned to embrace it. I just feel like nothing is working and that has me sitting in the gutter with ice cream and Swedish fish

    1. What about Jordyn? She got the most amazing results from weight watchers, I feel like she would make a good coach/buddy for getting fit. I know what you mean though the first day is easy, one week is hard, 6 months is easy, it's like that for me anyway. Once you get over the hump and start seeing results it's easy to get addicted and stay with it. Text me anytime if you need some motivation (even though you look amazing) miss you! xo

  13. Goodness, I totally know the feeling. I gained far too much weight (in my opinion) in my first year of marriage. It took me a while to realize it was because I was eating as much as my husband.

  15. That is awesome that you lost 6 pounds! While I would LOVE to lose a few pounds, my main goal is to eat healthier for nutritional reasons and to just feel better on a day to day basis. I want to give my body the protein it needs to work hard as I begin my career! And if I lose 6 pounds like you did in the process, I'd be thrilled!

  17. Preaching to the choir, haha! My boyfriend Jake eats about three times the amount I do, but it's hard to stop myself from trying to keep up. We started living together in May, and I did gain a bit of weight this summer. I've been trying really hard to eat better, and I've lost about 10 lbs since November! I've started making healthy smoothies and doing dance/ballet/barre videos at home. I get really intimidated by Jillian Michaels and videos like that, so it's always great to feel like I'm being a beautiful ballerina while sweating my butt off, haha. Do you workout with videos ever? Any preferences? :)

  20. Good for you on losing the six lbs! I joined a local gym, and am trying to get fit for 2013 too. I've been so lazy about working out and eating right and really need to take it more seriously!

  21. Exactly!!! When I met my boyfriend I was 25 pounds lighter...ever since met him and yeah he's 6 foot and lean as ever, I've horribly adapted to his eating habits. I'm trying so hard to get fit too!! =)
