Weekend Engagement

This weekend was awesome, our good friends came up from San Diego to celebrate their anniversary and got engaged while they were up here! It was amazing news and I'm glad we could celebrate with them, especially since we miss so much being away. They're the first ones in our group of friends to get engaged and it's so exciting. Congrats again Alex and Elora!

With celebrations come temptation, and even though I'm on a diet I had to have celebratory drinks with the newly engaged couple and we went out to eat a few times. I tried to make healthy choices but you have to live a little. A big, important part of my fitness plan is making sure I can sustain it for life. It's not a crash diet, or a cleanse, it's simply a healthy lifestyle, so having a glass of wine and a sandwich at the park has to be able to fit in. If I allow myself occasional pleasures I will be more likely to stick with it, if I put myself on a really strict plan, once I take a bite of something "bad" I end up throwing the diet out the window and feel like I failed.

Hope you all had a great weekend!

  1. Try not to feel guilty about indulging once in a while - moderation is key! :) As you said yourself, it's living a healthy lifestyle. You have to have the good AND the bad. Jake and I go out to this Asian buffet once every week or so, and I've resolved not to feel guilty about it. I freaked out a little on Valentine's day because I ate SO much it wasn't even funny... but then I had to remind myself that one day won't make or break me! You might as well enjoy the food and drinks while they're there, right? :)

    1. True. It's definitely a fine line between staying true to healthy eating and becoming obsessive. Once I have a goal in mind and a strong plan on how to get there it's hard to go "off track" and not feel guilty. But I think it's gets better with time and I'll become more confident in my choices and habits. I indulged on Valentine's Day too, holidays should be enjoyed.

    2. Preaching to the choir! I have a history of obsessive dieting, so I have to be really careful with my mindset when I do try and lose weight. You seem to be doing great on MyFitness Pal at least - Congrats on your healthy weight loss so far! :)

  2. congrats to your friends on the engagement. That's so exciting and so awesome that you could share that with them. I'm living far away from my friends (five hours) and I just had a friend have a baby that I've yet to meet. It sucks being so far away and feeling like you're missing out on that kind of stuff.

  3. That's awesome news, congrats to your friends!

And I completely agree, all good diets are done in moderation. If you set really strict standards you are just setting yourself up to fail and give up on it.

  5. I am such a sucker for engagements (and Pinkberry). What a fun weekend!

I'm really appreciating your healthy eating tips lately. Seriously, thanks for the honesty! Embracing a healthy lifestyle - not just a quick crash diet or a week of juice cleansing - is the key to making a real change for yourself (er, or at least for myself :). Lately my problem has been the extra expenses of eating healthily. On a college-student-budget, wanting to fill my grocery cart with tons of fresh fruits and vegetables can be tricky. Shouldn't healthier stuff be less expensive? Come on!

    1. I know, it's expensive and since I'm trying to buy fresh it means even more trips to the grocery store!

  6. Like everyone else I'm really enjoying your healthy eating comments. I try to live by a similiar ethos of long term change rather than quick fixes. After two years I feel like it really has "stuck", I gym and yoga regularly, eat lots of vegetables and protein, and don't feel guilty if I indulge once in a while by living by the 80/20 rule!

Well done on your progress (and congrats to your friends, as a newly engaged lady its a lovely time, I hope they enjoy it)

    1. Congrats to you too! It's hard for me because I'm such an "all or nothing" person but in the long run it's best for us.

  8. Yeah for your friends!! I agree a 100% about having little indulgences! Crash diets do not work...slow and gradual and steady does! Good for you keeping at it! =)
