When I started my journey to get healthier and lose weight I wasn't sure how I felt about sharing the process or how much I wanted to reveal. I ended up not discussing it until after a month in. I was overwhelmed by your responses and how so many of you are going through the same thing and have some of the same emotions and habits that I do. But this subject is touchy and controversial and lately I've been getting questions that have made me think about the dangers of this subject.
I am not a food or healthy living blogger, I have a personal blog and this is part of my life. I want to share some dishes and keep you up to date on my successes and hear about yours as well but I don't want the world in on every single bite of food I take each day or my weight or dress size or bra size, that seems so invasive. Every body and lifestyle is different, what works for me may not work for you and vice versa. I naturally love raw vegetables and fruits and never have soda or fast food but I love sweets and cheese and hoppy beer. Maybe all you need to do is cut out soda and eat more veggies, clearly that's not gonna cut it for me.
I experience a huge surge of traffic every time I pin something weight loss related on Pinterest and I think it's because so many of us are looking for that secret or quick fix even though we know it doesn't exist. We need to know our bodies, eat well and exorcize, that's it and that's how I have been doing it, honestly (16 pounds down since yesterday!) I will admit that I have and will probably try anything if you say it's healthy for me or will help me lose weight. Let's try to get out of that way of thinking and focus on what's best for us as individuals.

Just something to get in mind with this subject, I need to remind myself of this daily.

  3. I find your ideas absolutely correct and especially applicable to Tumblr. There have been a lot of grumblings about the general "social form" of that site and what kids are just falling into to gain popularity or attention. Sad as it is, weight loss and depression/emo attitude are some of those things. So, you've really touched on it in a great way.

  4. Great post. I honestly hide every weight loss board on pinterest and avoid weight loss blogs and tumblrs because people just can get so crazy about it so quickly. I feel like people will try anything to lose weight even when it is extremely unhealthy/not good for their bodies. I think you're just doing great, grrrrl.

  5. This is so well put! Go you for the weight loss that you've accomplished. It's so true that what works for one body doesn't work for another. People go crazy for a quick fix that doesn't exist. You should have some sort of privacy as you go through this journey/lifestyle change. No diets. :)

    Maintaining a healthy lifestyle is my biggest problem. I have all these great intentions to get healthier, get started, and eventually lose motivation. I wonder if part of the reason is because I'm always embarking on these health adventures on my own. It's kind of a lonely struggle! I feel like having a friend to do it with/go on jogs with, etc would make it easier. Any thoughts about the benefits of having a buddy?

It is a bit of controversial subject, because there is a fine line between promoting a healthy lifestyle and stating that losing weight is the only way to happy and healthy (even if that's not your intended goal at all) and also making sure it doesn't become an obsession. I'm on a similar journey to you, and I do love reading about your journey. You do a good job of walking the line I think, and I hope you continue sharing it.

  10. I feel the same way! I never talk about my weight loss or anything related, because the Tumblr Babies make me cry my eyes out with their starvation obsession and ribcage photo galleries. So depressing. You keep doing your healthy thang! I love that you keep it in perspective and make it about health and not about skinny. :)

There are still so many things i'm learning everyday about being a vegetarian and what my body needs. I still have weight loss goals to acheive but everyday i'm making it count in some way.   12. I know what you mean. I've lost nine lbs. since February eating healthier and exercising but I just don't feel the need to be posting about all the details. Sometimes people think blogging means you have to be totally transparent and share everything but I like my privacy and don't see the need to be sharing before and after pictures in my underwear. Anyways, congrats on your weight loss so far and hope you can stick to it!

  13. You're right on point! There is no "quick fix" or "body wrap" that will get you from out of shape to in shape. It's all about exercise, meal proportions + healthy eating. Takes dedication, time + patience but in the end it is SO worth it!

  15. Totally agree! You have to make healthy choices that are right for you and stick to them. It's less about dieting and more about making proactive changes that lead to a healthier lifestyle overall. There's no one-size fits all approach and while I think we all know that, we still seem to be on the prowl for it anyway! Sheesh.
